Hidden in the heart of the Western Carpathians, the small village of Garana, —also called Wolfsberg by the Bohemian colonists who have inhabited it until some 30 years ago—has developed, during the last decades, into an international artist colony—hosting, for the 18th time this year, Europe's only open-air jazz festival, a kind of contemporary Woodstock. Instead of diminishing its appeal, the capricious climate and the special location seem to increase the ambition of the participants to belong to the "chosen," if not few, ones. Throughout its relatively short history, the festival has featured an impressive lineup of high-class artists —including Eberhard Weber, Mike Stern, Jan Garbarek, Charles Lloyd, Jean-Luc Ponty, Stanley Jordan, John Abercrombie, Miroslav Vitous, Zakir Hussain, Magnus Ostrom, Bugge Wesseltoft, Lars Danielsson, Avishay Cohen and Nils Petter Molvaer—becoming one of the most significant musical events of its kind, attended by thousands of jazz lovers who travel each summer to the mountains, ignoring the risk of rain and the chilly nights. This year's illustrious lineup rewarded the audience with four days of good music in a well thought-out balance of consistency and diversity.

Actor de neocolit al vieții culturale locale începând din 1992, Institutul Francez din Timisoara (anterior, centru cultural francez) este, începând din 2012, una dintre cele patru antene ale Institutului Francez din România (împreună cu București, Cluj-Napoca și Iași). Acesta promovează politica de cooperare și de acțiune culturală a Ambasadei Franței pentru promovarea culturilor și a limbii franceze, focalizându-se asupra dimensiunilor celor mai actuale ale acestora. Institutul transmite și dinamizează practica limbii franceze atât printr-o ofertă de cursuri diversificată, destinată adulților, copiilor și companiilor, cât și prin acțiuni de cooperare educativă și universitară. Acesta organizează examene pentru certificările de franceză recunoscute la nivel internațional : DELF, DALF și TCF, eliberate de Centrul Internațional de Studii Pedagogice (instituție afiliată Ministerului Educației din Franța), TEF și DFP, concepute și dezvoltate de Camera de Comerț și Industrie din Paris și Île-de-France. Institutul pune la dispoziția publicului și o mediatecă ce însumează 12 000 de documente și oferă accesul la alte peste 200 000 de documente digitale prin platforma Culturethèque.

Timișoara will be the European Capital of Culture in 2023. Thus, “Timișoara will have 2 years to recalibrate the program with which it won the title”, wrote on Facebook, Simona Neumann, executive director of the TM 2021 Association. Initially, Timișoara should have held this title in 2021, which is why it had begun some preparations, including the mural painting contest that took place the other day in the city. But the uncertainty created by the Sars Cov-2 virus has affected preparations at all levels, “from the funding perspective to future safety regulations,” according to the European Commission. In addition, new restrictions around the world have drastically reduced tourism flows and opportunities for European and international partnerships. In these conditions, the postponement of the title of European Capital was proposed and approved as follows: • until April 30, 2021 the title will be held by Rijeka (Croatia) and Galway (Ireland)  • in 2022 the title will be held by Novi Sad (Serbia) • in 2023 the title will be held by Timisoara (Romania), Veszprem (Hungary) and Elefsina ( Greece) “The European Capital of Culture is more than a symbolic distinction, because this competition has brought in the winning communities not only unique cultural projects, but also economic and social progress. Timișoara, after Sibiu, is the second Romanian city to obtain this title. The extension of the period in which the event takes place will offer European visitors the opportunity to discover one of the most beautiful and full of history Romanian cities “as stated by Adina Vălean, President of the ITRE Commission of the European Parliament.

Cine nu a fredonat măcar o dată melodiile unor interpreți iubiți de toată lumea precum DJ Bobo, Technotronic sau No Mercy? Cine nu și-a dorit să poată vedea și asculta live pe acei artiști care, în anii ’80 și ’90, cucereau inimile tuturor și ale căror refrene se auzeau pe frecvențele tuturor posturilor de radio comerciale? Muzica disco nu are vârstă. Este ritmul care place fiecăruia dintre noi, îndrăgit atât de rockeri cât și de fani ai rap-ului. Este iubită și ascultată atât de cei care trăiau, în anii ’80 șau ’90, prima dragoste, cât și de noile generații, tinerii zilelor noastre.

Proiectul „Bazar Cultural” este un unul complex, cu o componentă centrală de concerte (jazz și muzică clasică), dublate de spectacole și intervenții/ improvizații de teatru, activități educative pentru copii și tineri, un târg de produse
